Texas A&M School of Law Bar Pass Rate Ranked Third in Texas

Thu, May 01, 2014 7:59 AM | Sam Udovich

With a pass rate of 87.5 percent, Texas A&M University School of Law had the third highest pass rate of the nine Texas law schools for first-time examinees on the February Texas Bar Exam, as reported by the Board of Law Examiners. Forty-two Aggie law examinees passed the exam out of 48 who took the test for the first time in February. The state average first-time examinee pass rate was 80.28 percent.

“I’m thrilled with the success of our graduates on the February Bar Exam,” said Interim Dean Aric Short. “They have worked extraordinarily hard, and they should be proud of their accomplishments. These impressive results confirm the strength of our academic program and the support we provide each student. With the additional resources we expect to add soon, the future is even brighter for the law school.”

This success is credited to the combined efforts made by administration lead by Dean Short, the faculty and staff member Marta Miller, Director of Academic Support who strategized based off of July’s test numbers and ultimately enhanced student performance.

The Preparing for the Bar course was offered for the first time last fall to Texas A&M University School of Law students. The rigorous course and supplemental workshops, such as Bar Exam Boot Camps and the Bar Mentoring program, provided a strong scaffolding to build the best prepared students resulting in bar passage success. In the Bar Mentoring program, students are matched with a practicing attorney who was successful on the bar exam to receive the coaching necessary to excel on the test that measures whether a candidate is qualified to practice law in a given jurisdiction.

“I felt tremendous personal responsibility for the February results and gave every ounce of energy I had,” Miller said. “Bar exam passage or failure, however, does not rest solely on the shoulders of one individual. This accomplishment would not have been possible without the support of our amazing staff and faculty. The real glory belongs to the students. I feel lucky to have been part of their journey to bar exam success.”
